Notre Dame's Case for the College Football Playoff: A Strong Argument
By Kyle Bonagura
STANFORD, Calif. -- Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman made a compelling case for his team's inclusion in the College Football Playoff after their 10th consecutive victory. With a 49-20 win over Stanford, the Irish are now ranked No. 9 in the playoff rankings, putting them in a strong position to make the final cut.
Freeman's argument is straightforward: Notre Dame is one of the best teams in the country right now. He points out that the team has won 10 straight games, all by double-digit points, which is a testament to their dominance and consistency.
The only potential issue for Notre Dame is if No. 10 Alabama and No. 11 BYU win their conference title games. In that scenario, they would clinch playoff spots, leaving Notre Dame as the first team out. However, the Irish have a strong chance of leapfrogging some of the teams they are currently ranked behind, such as No. 8 Oklahoma, which lost to LSU 17-13 on Saturday.
Another factor to consider is the ranking of No. 12 Miami, which is also 10-2 and beat Notre Dame early in the season. Miami will not play for the ACC title, which will feature No. 18 Virginia and unranked Duke. This could give Notre Dame an edge over Miami in the playoff rankings.
Overall, Notre Dame has been in playoff mode since September, with a few setbacks along the way. However, their recent dominance and strong performance have solidified their case for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
