The Myton Hospices has clinched the Innovator in Care Award at the 2025 Hospice UK Awards, a victory the organization is delighted to announce. The national Hospice UK Awards spotlight the trailblazing work happening across hospices and palliative care groups nationwide. This year’s competition drew more than 150 submissions across eight categories, marking the strongest and most competitive field to date.
The Innovator in Care distinction honors individuals and teams that have reshaped care delivery through ingenuity, collaboration, and forward-thinking strategies. Myton was recognized for its GP Information Clinics, which have redefined how people with life-limiting illnesses, along with their families and carers, access information and support.
Created in collaboration with local Primary Care Networks, Myton’s GP Information Clinics place hospice expertise directly inside GP practices. This setup enables patients and families to receive timely, tailored guidance in a setting they already trust. By introducing hospice support earlier in the illness trajectory, the clinics help patients make informed choices and improve their overall care experience.
The award was presented at Hospice UK’s national conference in Liverpool and accepted by Registered Nurse Olivia Bowskill, The Myton Hospices’ Community Engagement Manager and project lead. Olivia commented:

Looking ahead, The Myton Hospices plans to roll out the GP Information Clinics across Coventry and Warwickshire, broadening access to specialist support at earlier stages. Their long-term aim is to establish a sustainable, community-based model for palliative care that other hospices nationwide can adapt.

Recent years have seen requests for inpatient care rise by about 11% in the past year, and there remains a shortage of available inpatient beds—an issue felt across the region since Coventry and Warwickshire currently rely on Myton as the sole local provider. This gap highlights the continual funding challenge: as a charity, not a statutory NHS entity, Myton must raise approximately £12.7 million of the £15.3 million required yearly to keep services free for patients and families. NHS funding accounts for only around 17% of this total, with the remainder coming from donations and community support.
